TCT Abstracts Move into the Electronic Era

Attendees at TCT 2006 will notice that the traditional poster sessions are missing. In their place will be electronic versions of both the poster and oral abstract presentations accepted for TCT, explained George D. Dangas, MD, PhD, Director of Academic Affairs and Investigational Pharmacology at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF).

There will be about 650 total abstracts available electronically at TCT. Of these, about 150 will be presented orally.

Accessibility
The electronic abstracts will be available two ways. During the meeting, TCT attendees will be able to access all abstracts at dedicated review stations located throughout the Washington Convention Center. The abstracts will be searchable by author, subject, keyword, and session time.

The abstracts will also be available during the meeting through a link on the TCT 2006 and CRF Web sites.

PowerPoint presentations will be uploaded by the presenters. “Instead of taking notes from a poster or using a camera to capture part of a poster, attendees will be able to see the entire presentation at the review station or later through the Web site,” Dangas said.

Another electronic feature will allow attendees to email a PDF of the presentation to their email addresses.

Finally, attendees will be able to contact presenters through both the Web site and the review stations. “Although CRF cannot guarantee that presenters will respond, the feature provides the opportunity for virtual discussions during and after the meeting,” Dangas said. “Attendees can also arrange face-to-face meetings with presenters at TCT 2006 by using the feature.”

The electronic availability of abstracts and presentations will provide “more comprehensive access throughout the meeting, as well as continued access to the meeting materials for at least a year,” he added.
